The State Command Sergeant Major serves as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Adjutant General. Performs the duties as Senior Noncommissioned Officer to both Army and Air National Guard. As the Senior NCO for the Army National Guard responsible for the following; The Army National Guard Enlisted Promotion System, Command Sergeant Major and First Sergeant Selection process, Enlisted Quantitative Retention Board, Army National Guard Enlisted Full Time Manning, Army National Guard Discipline, Senior NCO Assignments, Senior NCO Career Management. Serves on councils supports Massachusetts National Guard Programs such as State Partnership Program, Diversity, Family Programs, and others. The State Command Sergeant Major performs numerous hours of duty throughout the year, weekends, and holidays, with no set hours or work week. A majority of personal expenses incurred while performing the duty are not reimbursable
Plans, coordinates, and executes Partner Nation Enlisted Leader Professional Development activities including leadership subject matter expert exchanges (SMEEs), NCO/PO academy curriculum reviews, and Force structure assessments; plans, coordinates, and executes Senior Enlisted Leader (SEL) security and defense conferences throughout USSOUTHCOM area of responsibility.
Educates, counsels, mentors, and evaluates over 65 senior noncommissioned officers of the United States Army, combined services, and allied nations in the Sergeants Major Course (SMC); facilitates over 150 hours of military subjects focusing on critical thinking skills, theory, and application of strategic concepts, planning, and graduate-level academic material in Joint, Interagency, Intergovernmental, and Multinational Operations (JIIMO); develops, revises, and updates the accuracy of lesson plans; serves as faculty advisor for various committees; responsible for automation and installation equipment property valued at over $130,000.00.
79th Troop Command (Homeland Security) Primary advisor to the brigade commander on all matters pertaining to enlisted personnel and their families; manages unit enlisted professional development and the NCO education system; monitors and assesses unit training and provides feedback and recommendations to the commander and staff; assists in the inspection of unit armory, equipment and personnel; ensures compliance with command policies and enforces standards; presides over or participates in promotions, selections or boards as required; ensures integration of new personnel; assists the commander in public affairs planning and analysis with higher echelon units.
