James Zhixiang Yang obtained his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies from the University of Oklahoma in 2016. Currently, he acts as an associate professor of the Chinese Language and Culture Center (CLC) at Beijing Normal- Hong Kong Baptist University enthusiastically teaching some courses pertinent to Chinese culture , history, and literature. Likewise, he is committed to publishing his works on John Dewey and Confucius, as well as Chinese intellectual history. In his dedication to liberal arts education at the UIC, James has been actively involved with international academic events. In 2021, James was nominated to be an recipient for the 2021 AERA(American Educational Research Association) CBTE (Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism and Education) SIG's Early Career Outstanding Research Award. In addition, as a cartoonist, James works tirelessly to create a series of comics of ancient Chinese poetry and prose. For international publication (2018), Dr. Yang and Dr. Melissa Brevetti collaborated on a children's book, with comedy and bilingual education, that unites Eastern and Western Moral Philosophy. He believes that drawing, like teaching and writing, can be an excellent educational method to share his feelings and thoughts with a diversity of students.
