    James Theobald began his career in music at the age of 15 after having spent the previous years as an Illinois farm boy. Abruptly switching from raising crops and livestock to notes and rhythms, he graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy, the University of Illinois, and was Graduate Assistant of Percussion at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida. Professionally, he has held positions with the Miami Philharmonic, the Santa Fe Opera Company and Radio City Music Hall. As a freelance percussionist, performances range from Frank Sinatra to Broadway. From 1980 to 1997, he was a full time percussionist with Julio Iglesias, touring in over 70 countries, of which his favorite concert was in Egypt in front of the Sphinx, a long way from Illinois.
