Farm animal director of a busy and growing mixed practice responsible for maintaining client relationships, people management and business oversight. Listening, reflecting and supporting change are the key attributes I brought to the success of this role. Managing growth from 17 to 65 employees meant developing a flexible and progressive approach to the business structure and line management responsibilities. Being a part of preparing the business for sale and supporting teams up to that change was a challenging process requiring diligence, patience and calm. As a clinician, supporting proactive and preventative medicine approaches to farms kick started an approach of building local collaboration in disease management strategy. Particularly successful was our local pilot of bvd control on 21 farms involving a range of vet practices. Overcoming perceived business barriers to recognise mutual benefit for veterinary and farm businesses alike required diplomacy, knowledge and negotiation.
