At Unizin, as Senior Director of Research Support and Assurance, I steward member and GCP customer utilization of the Unizin Data Platform (UDP) for both general and institutional research. My additional role centers on Unizin policy and compliance, with specific attention to the UDP, learning analytics ethics, privacy, and confidentiality, best practices, and governance that support the secure management and delivery of learning data. Prior to coming to Unizin, I served as the Group Manager for IT Community Partnerships (ITCP) at Indiana University, a collaborative and consulting unit that looked to address unique needs of IT professionals outside the enterprise, and move their units where feasible, to enterprise services. I also served as the group manager for TechSelect, a UITS IT Support Services provider for Indiana University. Prior to my position in UITS, I served as the Director of Leveraged Resources within the College of Arts and Sciences IT Office (CITO). There, I managed the Technical and Support Services Teams within CITO, as well as worked with UITS, schools, units and departments across the College to leverage, develop, and deliver a variety of IT resources, and implement policies in service of compliance, while enabling teaching, research and administrative process to function effectively. My professional work spans the development of the Social Science Research Commons and learning spaces; supporting research involving “common pool” experimentation and the work of Nobel Prize recipient, Elinor Ostrom; processes governing access to sensitive data; and institutional vetting of software and services through both the lens of security (HECVAT) and institutional viability. My current interests align with my work broadly but also specifically centering on how IT and business intelligence impact and are influenced by key areas of institutional change; and how an effective evolution takes place between enterprise services and support and the unique environments and needs of distributed IT. Business intelligence and information transparency can and should play a key role in influencing positive, institutional growth and change. I taught in the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs for ten years as an adjunct instructor, and am interested in collaborative technologies, innovative, IT-driven classrooms, and the integration of data in teaching.
