Experience

  • Bespoke Furniture Design Intern at One Off
    Aug 2024 - Dec 2024 · 5 mos

I spent 4 months as a Bespoke Furniture Design Intern at One Off, one of Ireland’s most prestigious furniture design studios. I was lucky to have the opportunity to learn a lot about the furniture industry through the variety of projects I undertook. I worked on a mixture of briefs from corporate projects for clients such as LinkedIn, Yahoo and Meta, to residential projects and bespoke furniture pieces. The project I enjoyed the most during my time at One Off was the design of new furniture for Ireland House, the new Irish embassy and residence in Tokyo, Japan. I am so pleased to have been part of the design team that developed a dining table and meeting tables for such an important centre of Irish community and culture in Japan. I was privileged to meet so many incredible designers during my internship and had a chance to really develop my CAD skills, while learning the importance of an iterative design process and efficient communication with clients. I also had the opportunity to spend some time in the workshop in Bagenalstown, County Carlow, seeing projects through into the manufacture stage. I even oversaw the production of a bowl I had designed myself which I found incredibly rewarding. This experience communicating with the brilliant technicians in the workshop, producing working technical drawings, and learning how to work with a CNC was invaluable.

  • Product and Brand Design Intern at Dalziel & Pow
    Jul 2024 - Jul 2024 · 1 mo

I interned at Dalziel & Pow, one of the UK’s leading brand innovation agencies. I worked on a brief designing a series of pop-up shops for Arc’teryx - a Canadian outdoors brand. I developed a narrative behind the pop up shop, a plan of action, and designed my own products to be given away at the event itself. I really enjoyed the challenge of designing unique products for Arc'teryx while staying true to the brand's core philosophy and ideology about the outdoors. At Dalziel & Pow I learned the value of comprehensive research, how to construct an industry standard brief, and how to present my design ideas in a formal presentation. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Dalziel & Pow and I'm eager to learn more about, and explore brand innovation and brand strategy further in future positions.

  • Brand Ambassador and Tour Guide at Heineken Experience
    Jun 2022 - Aug 2022 · 3 mos

I worked as a Brand Ambassador at The Heineken Experience Amsterdam giving tours and leading guests through the historic first ever Heineken brewery. I was the face of the experience, and my primary role was to engage with the guests, and give them an experience they would never forget. I told guests all about the history of Heineken, how the beer is made, and what the future has in store for the brand. I loved telling stories, answering any questions the guests had, and getting the chance to meet and speak to so many people from all around the world. I also worked in the Best 'Dam Bar at the end of the tour, serving a refreshing Heineken beer to each of the thousands of guests that came through our doors each day. Furthermore, I worked in the gift shop assisting guests with merchandise and helping to create their very own personalised beer bottles they could take home to remember their experience. I excelled in this role as I thrive in a busy team environment, I am always eager to speak to new people, and I loved creating a memorable experience for every guest that I met. I find that this very guest focused approach to my role as Brand Ambassador at The Heineken Experience has had a lasting impact on my design work. I consider this position the beginning of my fascination with brand strategy, brand design and user-centered design. As always I am looking forward to learning more, and developing these skills as I grow as a designer.
