About Me: I am an accomplished Inspection Engineer with over 20 years of extensive hands-on experience acquired in QA, Welding Inspection, Welding Certification, Plant Inspection, Piping, Storage Tanks, Pressure Vessels & Non-Destructive Testing [Advanced and Conventional] I started my career in NDT / Inspection when i was 16, working the school summer holidays as an NDT assistant and continued doing so every summer until i was 21 when i graduated from the Cork Institute of Technology (recently renamed MTU) with a BEng. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2007. As i already had a keen interest in NDT, materials & welding, i believed it would be of great benefit to further my education with a specialist post graduate BSc. degree in "Process Plant Technology" in 2008. This was a specialist honours degree programme that was aimed to produce graduates who could make a significant contribution to the design, operation, maintenance and management of process plant. Solely responsible for IPEC Inspection's accreditation to ISO 17020 (Welding Inspection - Type A Inspection Body) and ISO 17024 (Certification of Welding Personnel). Developed and produced the ISO 17020 and ISO 17024 quality management system including all the neccessary company specific quality manuals, standard operating procedures, report templates, company forms etc. Qualification of Welding, Brazing & Thermal Cutting Procedures (PQR's) & Specifications (WPS's), Welder & Welding Operator Qualifications to ASME IX, EN ISO 15614-1, EN ISO 15609-1, EN ISO 9606-1, EN ISO 14732, EN ISO 9013 etc. Welding, Vessel & Client Owners Inspector on behalf of multiple Pharmaceutical clients at various locations throughout Ireland & Europe. Review of NDT Procedures, Testing Methods & Ensuring Code Compliance, Mentoring and Training of NDT technicians (Developed the competency & skills of each technician and carrying out annual competancy assessments). Radiation Safety Supervisor (RPS): Developed safety procedures, emergency safety training procedures, risk assessments & improved method statements for the safe operation of X-Ray & Gamma equipment. Currently act as an API authorised Pressure Vessel Inspector (API 510) for a client based in Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork carrying out API inspections & NDE examinations as per the "API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspection Code". As an API inspector, I am directly involved in numerous different inspection activities including; internal & external visual inspections, on-stream inspections, non destructive examinations (NDE's), determining condition monitoring locations (CML's), monitoring corrosion allowances & corrosion rates, reviewing vessel documentation (inspection plans, material verification, inspection results, NDE reports, vessel repair, alteration, rerating and pressure testing activities), determining damage mechanisms, defect analysis, providing inspection recommendations, determining minimum required thicknesses, determining maximum allowable working pressures (MAWP's), determining inspection intervals & frequency, vessel remaining life calculations and quality control.
Carried out Phased Array Weld Examination of Annular Plates, Ultrasonic Thickness Measurements & Lamination Checks and Magnetic Particle Examination in Bantry, West Cork as part of a recent Storage Tank Floor Replacement Programme.
BV NDT / Welding Inspection supervisor covering all major shutdowns at various mine sites across WA, eg. Yandi, Port Hedland, Finucane Island, Christmas Creek & Cloudbreak for BHP and also Murrin Murrin for Minara Resources. Main duties involved Welding Inspection and Supervision, Plant Inspection, Storage Tank Inspection and various NDT testing techniques including X and Gamma Radiography, Ultrasonic Weld Inspection, Magnetic particle inspection, Liquid penetrant examination, 3rd party hydro inspection, hardness testing & PMI.
NDT / Heat Treatment / Inspection supervisor at BHP Yarnima 190MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Station in Newman, WA. Main Roles & Responsibilities included; Liaising with the QA/QC Inspectors on-site and plan a scope of work for both dayshift & nightshift. Non-Destructive Testing & Welding Inspection on S/S, C/S & Chrome Molly (P22) welds plus various structural works. RT/MT/PT of gas and steam lines linked to the Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG's) and Siemens SGT800 Gas Turbines, Inspection in accordance with AS4037 and AS1554. Supervision of 10 NDT & Heat Treatment technicians. NDT techniques include Ultrasonic Testing, Radiographic Testing, Magnetic Particle Inspection, Dye Penetrant Inspection, Hardness Testing & Positive Material Identification (PMI). Carry out Pre & Post Weld Heat Treatment on all Chrome Molly (P22) welds. I also needed to ensure all worksheets, spreadsheets, reports and equipment logs for each job request is of an acceptable quality and meets the minimum standard for NATA.
Non-destructive testing on various sites throughout the Perth area. Oil Refinarys, Aluminum Plants, Carbon & stainless workshops. Testing techniques used include X and Gamma radiography, Ultrasonic thickness measurement, magnetic particle inspection, liquid penetrant examination, See-snake and Kazoom video inspection. Condition Monitoring & Assessment. Fracture Mechanics etc. WA Mining experience includes shutdown work in BP Oil Refinery (Kwinana), BHP Nickel Refinery (Kwinana) and First Quantum Minerals Mine Site (Ravensthorpe).

Testing techniques used include X and Gamma radiography, PMI, Ultrasonic thickness measurement, magnetic particle inspection, liquid penetrant examination, location of Underground Services, supervision of a painting & coating crew on an above ground gas network installation (AGI) for Bord Gáis Ireland. This involved viewing P&ID drawings and ensuring work was carried out to correct procedures and specifications.
