With more than 30 years in healthcare administration, James Jackson serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Alameda Health System in Alameda County, CA. Prior to this role James was the Chief Operating Officer of Seton Medical Center & Seton Coastside, part of the Verity Healthcare System. James has served as the Chief Administrative Officer of San Leandro & Alameda Hospitals, part of the Alameda Health System. Prior to that he was the Administrator of Fairmont Hospital, also part of the Alameda Health System. Before joining AHS James was a Support Services Assistant Administrator with Kaiser Foundation Hospitals in the Diablo Service Area. Before joining Kaiser, James was the Chief Operating Officer of Saint Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco, California. Prior to joining Saint Francis, James held several positions at Children’s Hospital and Research Center in Oakland, California, where he ultimately served as the Vice President of Ancillary and Support Services. His career in healthcare administration began with his service in the United States Navy at the Naval Hospital in Oakland, California.
The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for the operation of the clinical ancillary and non-clinical departments at Seton Medical Center and Seton Coastside including but not limited to Dietary, Pharmacy, Laboratory, Diagnostics & Therapeutics, Engineering, and Environmental Services. Responsible for guiding staff members in effective performance of their job duties. Ensures continual effective operations and is responsible for the compliance of State and Federal regulations. Maintains and improves facilities to meet the demands of the organization. Oversees the planning, prioritization, and implementation of action plans to achieve annual goals, targets, and improvement metrics. Has primary responsibility for hospital-wide productivity standards. Acts as the senior executive in the absence of the Chief Executive Officer.
As the Chief Administrative Officer for Alameda and San Leandro Hospitals, James has full responsibility for the successful operation and delivery of excellent patient care. He is charged with defining, developing, and implementing strategic initiatives consistent with the mission and strategic vision of the organizations.
James was responsible for all support services at the facility, including Engineering, Security, Clinical Technology, Nutrition, Environmental Services, Environmental Health and Safety, and Materials Management. James was also actively involved in the management of the Labor Management Partnership in the Diablo Service Area, and he was a facilitator in the STAR Leader Program—a management leadership development institute.
As the COO at Saint Francis, James served on the senior management team and functioned as backup for the hospital’s President/CEO. He was responsible for operational leadership at Saint Francis, including all ancillary and support services departments, as well as ambulatory care, risk management/compliance, and medical staff administration.
