He has extensive experience working in both the public and private sectors for academic research centres, startups SMEs and Multinationals. James’s business and entrepreneurial acumen is demonstrated by holding non-executive directorships of 2 startup medical device companies, one of which acquired venture capital funding and 2 directorships of public and private entities most recently as managing director and founder of Analyte Consultants; a company specializing in R&D commercialisation, regulator affairs strategy and project management. James was also on the steering committee of the IMDA and on the board of directors of CCAN Technology and Gateway Manager for ITT Dublin.

MiCRA was awarded Technology Gateway status by Enterprise Ireland in 2013. The remit of the Gateway is to enable industry access to the skills and expertise in ITT Dublin of relevance to the biodiagnostcis industry in Ireland This role involved: • Business development -18 companies have engaged with the Gateway. • R&D strategy, - Expanded the Gateway’s industry offering to include the development of analytical technologies for the dairy, pharmaceutical and green tech industries. • Research Commercialisation - 2 successful commercialisation fund applications - 2 successful Technology Centre applications (PMTC & DPTC) - 3 Innovation partnerships - 5 patent applications - 4 Licenses • Project Management & Research Supervision Over 35 industry Projects have been successfully completed by the Gateway. Companies include Diarygold, Pfizer, Trinity Biotech, Bimeda, EKF Diagnostics. • Proposal writing • Fund Raising - €2.5 million was raised for biodiagnostics research during my tenure.
Microsensors for clinical research and analysis (MiCRA) was an Enterprise Ireland ARE centre located in the Institute of Technology, Tallaght, Dublin. MiCRA’s remit is to develop and commercialise diagnostic technologies through collaboration with Industry. My primary function was to develop the centre’s industry engagement and enable MiCRA’s transition to Technology Gateway status which was granted by Enterprise Ireland in 2013. This role involved: • Business development, • R&D strategy, • Commercial strategy, • Promotion (including website development, LinkedIn, exhibiting at trade shows and conferences, holding open days, press releases ect), • Project management • Proposal writing • Fund Raising (see Technology Gateway position for further details)
My role was to establish: • A quality management system to ISO 9001(2008) and ISO 13485 • A product technical file.
