As a Captain I was responsible for operating a 32 foot charter fishing vessel on Lake Superior. This would include determining a productive fishing location and operating boat in a busy harbor. Using latest weather forecasts, I am responsible for determining the safety of my customers out on the big lake. Once at the fishing spot I would set lines and educate customers on the proper fishing techniques. Requires skill in multitasking as I am often steering the boat setting lines and entertaining customers at the same time. Over the course of summer 2019 I operated over 130 successful fishing trips and met over 550 customers. After the Trip I oversaw the maintenance of the boat, which included oil, coolant changes as well as ensuring the vessel exceeded Coast Guard safety requirements.
As a Mechanical Engineering Coop I was assigned to a variety of tasks from quality assurance, product testing, and product development. I was responsible for conducting field tests and baselines of current production units along with competitors products. Utilizing 3D modeling and printing I designed and developed initial prototypes of potential ice augers based on appearance, manufacturability, and ergonomics along with various ice fishing accessories. After assembling prototypes I would make sequential iterations based on feedback and coordination with members of the development team.
