R&D Co-Op in the Coronary Research and Innovation Department. The role involves taking initial solutions to generated problem statements and bringing these new technologies to proof of concept. The role also involves technical communication as the team regularly meet physicians and clinicians to carry out market research and Voice of Customer work to aid the development of these technologies. My project focused on designing and testing for two solutions to calcified lesions, a problem which had an identified gap in the market. The concepts incorporated Mechanical and Electronic Engineering knowledge. Experience in Solidworks and prototype design - I designed test fixtures, molds and models which were 3D-printed and used throughout the project as well as components for prototypes for the new technologies being researched. Experience in Catheter Manufacture - The project involved the design of a specialised catheter which harnessed the new technology and I gained experience in how to manufacture a simplified shorty catheter. This included training on laser and thermal balloon bonding, UV curing and tip sealing. The catheters then underwent efficacy testing to prove the validity of the technology. Experience in Test Model Design - I developed a reliable and repeatable calcified lesion model which consistently cracked at a high pressure similar to a calcified lesion based upon findings from available literature. This involved researching materials and the material properties of calcified lesions, designing a mold for making them, developing a clear manufacturing process for the model lesions and carrying out repeated crack pressure testing using a Hydraulic Burst Leak Tester and carrying out statistical analysis of this data using Minitab software. I also began initial research and testing into potential amalgam materials which could replicate the tensile properties of calcified lesions. This involved training on Zwick Tensile Testing machines.
Voluntary Position. I conduct a band of beginner musicians who have been learning to play instruments through the music school. I run a recorder programme for new members to the music school to teach them the fundamentals of music. I also cover for classes in trumpet, trombone, euphonium and tuba. I have lead and conducted a number of performances and travelled with the band to New York to perform in the 5th Avenue St. Patrick's Day Parade 2014. The band has also won the All Ireland Band Championships Junior Division twice.
As a Sandwich Artist PRO I must assist Subway customers with orders, prepare orders to customer specifications, operate cash registers, and complete other jobs assigned to me by the store manager. I must also field customer questions and complaints about personnel or products. Other duties are expected of me along with customer service; including cleaning and stocking. I am required to clean the kitchen, restaurant, and restroom areas as well as stock food goods when supply runs low. Food preparation is also a key part of the position and I must ensure there is enough breads, meats, sauces and vegetables ready to be restocked throughout the opening hours of the store and for opening the following day.
I was elected Auditor of the UCD LGBT Society at the end of my first year in University. As Auditor, I was head of a committee of 12 which were involved in the running and organisation of an active society with over 400 members. These events included film nights, coffee mornings, retreats, workshops and collaboration events with other societies within UCD. The society was one of the most active for events on UCD campus within the year with well over 200 hours of on-campus activity. In recognition for this work the society was nominated for Best LGBT Student Society and the Gay and Lesbian Awards 2014 as well as winning the award in 2013.
