// TL;DR: I care about building and growing product-focused engineering orgs "from zero to hero". And ensuring that successfully tackled organizational and technical scalability challenges enable key competitive advantage. --- I'm proficient in creating scalable distributed platforms and products from top to bottom, including architecture & design, development, all kinds of DevOps / Infrastructure activities and making them truly production-ready. But over the years I have also learned that building and growing strong tech orgs to do all that can be (and usually is) much more challenging.β¨ And I really thrive on such challenges: leading the engineering organisation and helping it be successful. I know how to establish strong engineering culture and ensure that teams are purpose-driven, autonomous and mastering their skills.β¨ I have an early-stage tech startups experience (three times already), and, even more importantly, a passion for it. However, I have also spent a fair bit of my career in much larger corporate environments and know to navigate them efficiently. Hooked on distributed systems, both the theory behind them and real world stuff. My programming background is primarily JVM-centric (Java, then _lots_ of Scala, a bit of Groovy and Kotlin). However, I can also speak Python, bash, JavaScript and Go. I'm a proponent of strongly typed static languages, but I do recognize the 'right tool for the job' principle. All things Cloud: I've built complex and successful products on top of both Amazon's and Google's cloud platforms. Oh, and I have a masters degree in CS. And also an unfinished CS Ph.D., which I abandoned to return to the industry a while ago. --- # Finom: We're scaling our product-led organization and constantly seeking product-minded builders and leaders who thrive on autonomy, ownership, and accountability. Building and scaling the industry-leading on/off-ramp orchestrator platform, powering the biggest crypto apps in the world, like Trust Wallet, Jupiter, Exodus, Zengo, Coinbase Wallet, Telegram Wallet, WorldCoin, and many-many others.
I had been leading the Marketplace tech tribe at Beat, which powers our core two-sided ride-hailing marketplace business and connects our passenger and driver users. The tribe is responsible for five core product & engineering domains and areas: - Payments - Fraud & Safety - Dynamic Pricing & Experimentation - Matching & Mapping - Platform Services, which is responsible for our platform-enablement applications Around 15 cross-functional squads in total; roughly 100 FTEs, including engineering ICs, EMs, SrEMs, Chapters Leaders.
I joined Beat with a very particular mission: building a Product & Engineering Hub here in Amsterdam from "Zero to Hero". Fast-forward two years from now on, seeing the AMS office grown from 0 to 110+ people (across all functions), despite all the craziness of 2020+ in the world around us, I couldn't be more proud of the results. I've assembled cross-functional product engineering domains hacking on solutions powering our Dynamic Pricing and Fraud Detection & Prevention capabilities. In both of these areas: we set out on a journey to introduce at Beat "Near Real-Time Platform(s) for making Automated Data-Driven Decisions"(c), powered by a combination of rule-based and ML-powered systems and services. Since January 2021, I'm leading the "Platform Enablement" Tribe at Beat, with product engineering teams responsible for evolving our Payments Platform, our capabilities for Fraud Detection & Prevention, Identity and Safety, as well as the "Platform Services" team building foundational services (AuthN/Z and Identity middleware, API GW for our distributed platform, dynamic configuration management, etc). Additionally, driving company-wide tech initiatives such as (a) consolidation of our "island-based" platform architecture under the "global stack" umbrella, (b) decoupling the backend monolith into a distributed platform aka "Turning our Monolith into yet-another-microservice". (c) scaling and improving interviewing processes various crafts (Backend, Mobile, Frontend, Data Eng, MLEng, Engineering Leadership).
[Side project]: At Fable, we aimed to democratize storytelling for fashion brands.
Leading the engineering organisation of fashionTrade, and scaling it to ~35 FTEs. Creating the best in class B2B fashion wholesale platform for brands and retailers. Ensuring the technical excellence of the FashionTrade.com core platform and the efficiency of the development process to reach our ambitious startup goals. The technical stack that we use at FashionTrade is top-notch: 'Microservices-Done-Right', a fully automated CI / CD, Kubernetes for the efficient services orchestration, data pipelines using Kafka and, of course, a few secret sauces here and there. ;) Still, we are fairly pragmatic when it comes to the tech, so our tool belt has only stuff that allows us to move fast and efficiently enough.
