Hong Kong SAR
I have worked in the transport industry for 38 years, 10 of which were in the aviation field and 28 years in the railway sector. In 1984 I joined the Commercial Aircraft Division of British Aerospace UK where I worked on the successful development and certification of various types of civil aircraft. I held various supervisory and managerial positions and in 1991 I was appointed Chief Reliability Engineer. In mid-1993 I joined the MTR Corporation in Hong Kong where I served in various managerial positions in reliability, safety, quality and risk management. My responsibilities covered the existing MTR metro network, new extensions and many international railway consultancy projects in a number of Asian and Middle East countries. From 2005 to 2007, as Enterprise Risk Manager, I developed and implemented an Enterprise Risk Management framework for the strategic management of business risks at the corporate level. In 2008 I moved to operations, and as Head of Operating - Support & West Region, my responsibilities covered the operations of the western part of the MTR rail network, which carries more than 1.3 million passengers every weekday and comprises the West Rail Line, Tung Chung Line, Airport Express Line, the driverless Disney Rail Link, the Light Rail Transit system and a fleet of 140 feeder buses. In 2012 I became Head of Operations – China & International Business and was responsible for managing the head-quarter resources for supporting and assuring the safe opening and continued operation of MTR’s railway franchises in China and other countries. In 2014, I led the O&M part of the successful bid for the iconic Sydney Metro Northwest PPP project, and supported the subsequent O&M planning during the delivery phase until 2018 when I became the Chief Executive Officer of the operator Metro Trains Sydney, which is an MTR/John Holland/UGL Rail JV company, I then grew and steered the young and green company through the construction, testing and commissioning and operations readiness project phases, and in May 2019, we achieved, together with our JV partners, the landmark on-time opening of the first ever driverless metro in Australia. I therefore completed what I started and delivered an award-winning metro that is achieving high standards of reliability and customer service. In Aug 2019 I returned to MTR and led the O&M part of the successful bid for Sydney Metro City & Southwest. I now serve on the Board of Directors of Metro Trains Sydney and Metro Trains Melbourne to oversee the deliveries of operationally and financially sound operations.
