  • Head of IT at European Bartender School
    Apr 2016 - Jun 2017 · 1 yr 3 mos

EBS sell bartending courses worldwide, with staff in Spain, Sweden, Denmark, and Thailand. I was initially contracted as a full-stack developer for three months, while their existing development team worked on a Salesforce implementation project. This involved back end Python and PHP; front end HTML, CSS, and JS; and Linux server administration work on their Django and Wordpress websites. In late 2016 the company underwent a process of consolidation and restructuring. Until then, IT had been approached in an ad-hoc manner, with a huge array of different systems in use by different departments, and no centralised IT management existed. I created a new IT department, reporting directly to the owners of the business, liaising with other departments, and managing staff both in-house and remote. New processes were implemented regarding the testing and deployment of developed code. I succeeded in my goals to both increase revenue and reduce expenditure. By taking control of the SEO and UX of the websites, I was able to increase website traffic by 20% and sales by 10% on the previous year; and by training staff I was able to reduce outsourcing costs.

  • Technical Director at Tommy
    Jul 2010 - Jan 2014 · 3 yrs 7 mos

This is Tommy are a digital creative agency founded in January 2010. With their founding team of strong design staff they had been creating great interactive advertising campaigns for Warner Brothers and Paramount Film studios, and had started to win more technical projects so retained me to complete their digital offering. Initially I worked with them on a short-term contract for Microsoft's XBOX brand, building a Facebook competition application. The success of this project brought in more work for the agency from Microsoft. Tommy's other clients, who had traditionally commissioned them for design work, were also impressed and began asking the agency to do more technical projects with them. As Technical Director of a small agency I have been involved at all levels of the business: from winning new projects, working with clients, and managing small development teams; to building websites, server administration, and training. Clients worked with: Microsoft, Google, Paramount, Warner Bros., Lastminute.com, The Macallan Whisky, Blackthorn Cider, DHM London, Assael Architecture.
