Hello World. That's how every programmer starts - and that's exactly how this story begins. It was the 10th grade. It was an Intro to Computer Science elective class, an elective I was only in because it was the only one available. It was the last class of my day. It was the class that class that didn't have a seat for me. So, I sat in the corner, not sure what to expect of the class. I had never heard Computer Science before, let alone known that we had an elective for it. But like any other class I was in, I was determined to excel. We started with HTML and CSS and I made my own website! I was so excited by the power of code and what seemed like the endless possibilities. That is, until I started coding in JavaScript. I coded my first "Hello World" and that, well that changed my life. It was like love at first sight. Sure, I made a fool of myself, stumbled on silly things, made syntax errors, but who doesn't? That didn't stop me from wanting to learn more and doing more. I decided to study Computer Science at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. There, I've learned about programming languages, algorithms, compilers, and higher mathematics. My thirst for knowledge hasn't died and neither has my determination to excel. It keeps me up at night and is always in the back of my mind. Now, I'm a software engineer at MongoDB on the Python Drivers team. I love the diversity of problems that we encounter and I'm excited to see what solutions we'll create!
- Mentors students with difficult math concepts by creating weekly practice problems, quizzes and utilizing online resources
Taught CSC 248 (Discrete Structures), CSC 101 (Fundamentals of Computer Science)
Helped students out during lab by answering questions about homework and programming assignments. Managed a discord server where students could ask questions outside of class and office hours.
- Directed a safe community for more than 60 first year residents - Offered support and upwards of 15 campus resources - Arranged social events for the extended community of 550 residents - Filed proper paperwork to maintain facility resources - Promoted community standards through routine check-ins 3-4 times a day
- Added type annotations to Python driver code base - Increased the performance of the Python driver by up to 134% - Worked towards adding a new feature of the driver and successfully handed off the project. - Participated in the MongoDB podcast
- Defined the specification for a project including designing the software architecture that accounts for future improvements after project handoff - Broke down the project into 40+ tickets for development - Designed a GO program that read hundreds of queries every hour from S3 and store the lineage in the Neo4j database - Utilized the open-source Trino SQL parser to extract data lineage from queries - Built a backend flask API that queries a Neo4j database
