I am an organized, motivated, and hardworking biomedical engineering graduate with a strong background in quantitative and qualitative research, data science and statistics, and technology and software development. My research interests include psycho-oncology, global health, holistic wellness, sleep, implementation science, patient-provider relationships, and the interaction between brain and body health. At Cohen Veterans Bioscience, my role as Senior Manager in Technology Development focuses on advancing mental health solutions. We've successfully deployed a mobile app and web-based portal for a decentralized clinical trial, which I managed from design to data analysis. My expertise in biostatistics and programming has been crucial in automating data cleaning and organization for the 40Winks clinical trial, ensuring accurate endpoint analysis. My commitment extends beyond technical skills to include producing participant-facing materials and conducting comprehensive staff training. Community service underpins my approach, as demonstrated by my research work with NYU Langone Health, where we examine racial and ethnic disparities in cancer screening and research participation and engage with multidiscplinary teams to understand the integration of mental health care into medical cancer treatment.
Researching and writing grant submissions to fund research and programming efforts to support justice-impacted, unhoused, and mentally ill individuals who are reentering society after experiencing incarceration. Working with CEO and other team members to develop the organization's business plan and first mixed methods research project.
I developed an interview guide and conducted qualitative interviews with oncology staff at New York City hospitals to evaluate the implementation of a mental health screening and referral process for chemotherapy-initiating cancer patients. Collaborating on qualitative analysis of interview transcripts in Dedoose, I utilized a deductive coding approach based on the interview guide and project objectives. Additionally, I am developing a research manuscript and externally facing reports on the findings from these qualitative interviews. I proposed and conducted two research projects using a cancer-related community health dataset, focused on cancer beliefs, cancer screening knowledge, cancer screening uptake, and factors affecting health research participation among immigrant, non-English speaking, and racially and ethnically diverse NYC residents. I conducted extensive literature reviews, performed quantitative analyses in SAS, and wrote research manuscripts and community-facing reports for the cancer screening and research participation projects.
I conducted a comprehensive literature review, data extraction, and wrote sections of a systematic review on sickle cell disease research in Colombia. Collaborating closely with local researchers, I also edited a book chapter in *Global Health, Climate Change, and Emerging Infectious Diseases*, which focused on the impact of climate change on the global malaria burden. Additionally, I participated in a university bioinformatics course to enhance my understanding of analysis techniques for gene markers associated with sickle cell disease.
I provided clinical research coordination and project management for two digital health projects: 40Winks, a proof-of-concept study testing a web and mobile app platform for remote trial participation among individuals with insomnia disorder, and the Technical Performance Verification (TPV) Study, a wearable device sleep measurement validation study for individuals with PTSD and insomnia disorder. I led operational planning, cross-departmental team meetings, and managed project timelines, delivering weekly progress reports and quarterly presentations to organizational leadership. As the primary contact for internal and external stakeholders, I collaborated on study designs, protocols, data collection tools, and statistical analysis plans. I worked on Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions, maintained the study database, and conducted quality control testing. I managed an international software engineering team for the development of the 40Winks mobile app, web portal, and backend database. I handled all study start-up activities, including user acceptance testing, producing participant-facing materials, developing staff manuals, training study staff, and overseeing the logistics of study technology. I maintained technical product documentation and standard operating procedures for data collection, quality control, and analysis processes. Supervising participant-facing study staff for 40Winks and TPV, I coordinated with external academic sites and contract research organizations to address participant inquiries. Acting as the subject matter expert, I resolved technology and data collection issues with study participants and staff. Utilizing Python and SQL, I managed data and automated data analysis processes for the 40Winks study. I produced an internal technical report assessing the study platform's feasibility and recommending improvements for future research, which informed updates for a subsequent clinical study among insomnia patients and providers.
I developed user flows and wireframes for the 40Winks participant portal and mobile study app, which participants used for enrollment, consent, communicating with study staff, and submitting clinical surveys. I also created user flows and wireframes for the 40Winks admin portal, enabling study staff to organize participant information, monitor data collection, communicate with participants, and manage research technology. In addition, I worked with Python and Excel to develop data processing tools that facilitated the analysis of TPV study data by data scientists, and I designed a graph database and web infrastructure to house a database of wearable and home sensor devices, including information on device specifications, digital biomarkers, and device uses in clinical research and practice settings. I gained knowledge of federal regulations for conducting human subjects research, including IRB requirements, HIPAA compliance, CITI training, and good clinical practice (GCP). Furthermore, I developed a financial sustainability plan for CVB’s device lab, outlining business requirements, ideation of products and services, and landscape mapping of potential customers, competitors, partners, and industry trends.
I collaborated with an external academic study site to create a data collection tool in REDCap for the TPV study. I conducted statistical analysis for an internal study to determine the validity of consumer wearable devices in measuring sleep against a research-grade gold standard, developing technical reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommend devices for the TPV study. Additionally, I presented on various health and technology-related topics, including FDA regulatory processes, HIPAA compliance, digital biomarkers for sleep, current data privacy policies, machine learning, device ontologies, and health informatics.
