Iris (Xiaobi) Pan is a designer, artist and technologist whose practice explores how emerging technologies shape the ways we express, perceive, remember, and relate to one another. She works across AI, XR, tangible media, and interactive installation to investigate how emerging technologies move beyond the screen and enter bodies, objects, spaces, and relationships. Her work examines how these technologies reshape human connection, memory, and everyday experience, treating technology as a material, mediator, presence, and participant in human life. Alongside her creative practice, Iris has worked on AI, XR, large-scale digital products and emerging prototypes at Amazon, Mastercard and IBM. This industry experience informs both her creative practice and teaching, connecting speculative exploration with the realities of designing, prototyping, and deploying emerging technologies at scale. Her key professional work includes Love Cassette (1M+ visitors), a gamified app that helped plant 100M trees worldwide, Amazon’s View in Your Room AR experience (25M users), early prototypes for Rufus, Amazon’s AI shopping assistant, and Mastercard Labs’ industry-first VR unattended store experience. Iris has spoken at Apple and major events such as IEEE GEM, Hong Kong Business of Design Week, Design Shanghai, and San Francisco Design Week, and has lectured at 10+ leading universities and institutions, including Tsinghua, IIT Bombay, Purdue, ArtCenter, Berklee, and SCAD. She has served as a juror for 30+ global design and creative awards, including the A’ Design Award, Australian Good Design Awards, and IxDA Interaction Awards. Her own design has been recognized by 20+ international awards, including 3 Red Dot Awards and the 2021 Fast Company Innovation by Design Award. Iris' work has been exhibited internationally at venues including the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, Sasse Museum of Art in Los Angeles, Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai, Harvard CAMLab, and MOWNA. She also writes about design, technology, and their social implications, with 220,000 followers on Zhihu and 25 million reads to date. Iris holds an MDes Tech degree from Harvard GSD, with cross-disciplinary study at the MIT Media Lab, and a B.E. in Industrial Design from Zhejiang University.
