Starting in 1998, Ingmar has spent the last 25+ years working for international organisations (OECD, UN, EU-Commission) and leading think-tanks on environmental data, policy and finance, its economic implications and how to make regulation and related data challenges work in practice. In recent years he has increasingly focused on nature finance and the role of policy and standards in shaping private investment decisions.
I started working as external expert with EFRAG's project task force for developing the European Sustainability Reporting Standards in August 2021, was nominated as member of its expert working group for non-climate environmental objective (with the role to focus on biodiversity and water) in November 2021 and as expert to several of sector standards related workstreams in the course of 2022
(Probably) Germany's leading sustainable finance think-tank, Climate & Company is home to a diverse international team of young and of more experienced sustainability, finance and policy geeks. We decided that we want to spend our working lives exclusively on being "part of the solution” and to do "whatever it takes" to save planet Earth and contribute our share to achieving a good life for all. With one of the top teams in Europe specialised in climate and sustainable finance policy and analytics, our portfolio spans the core range of sustainable finance, climate friendly investment and green recovery : advising the European Commission on the Ecolabel for Financial Products, supporting the work of the EU sustainable finance platform on the EU taxonomy, advising the German government on biodiversity finance and taxonomies, developing guidelines for financial institutions on how to manage ecosystem and biodiversity risks; or devising concrete policy options for promoting climate friendly investment, financing the green deal or greening the European Semester… . If you are facing a challenge in the sustainable finance and investment space, it is not unlikely we can either help you personally - or point you to the right people to help you to tackle it. We want to help (and we are able to) connect the dots and build the bridges between decision makers on different sides of the corridor - between sustainable and finance, between data and policy, between analysis and action, between today and tomorrow.
Based in Berlin, I will continue my leave from the European Commission, to be able to focus even more on my sustainable finance work, through a range of fascinating activities with a fabulous international and interdisciplinary team of sustainable finance experts (check it out @ https://www.fs-unep-centre.org/team/); but I will also continue working with the excellent network of sustainable finance researchers in the context of the Sustainable Finance Research Platform, which I first conceived in late 2017 and which we developed and established, together with our research network and supported by the Mercator Foundation and the German Ministry for the Environment.
