I love making ideas come to life, especially when everything just fits and works together! When working on a project or production, I enjoy piecing the best people and resources together to fit that particular puzzle. This can be an explainer video for a client or an event that brings creatives together. Being a teacher at Communication and Multimedia Design at the Hanzehogeschool allows me to use and pass on my professional and practical skills to a new generation of makers. It's also a great place for me to keep on learning: all of my colleagues and students add their own experience to the mix making it a great place of interesting ideas, creative experiments, visual storytelling and unforeseen possibilities and collaborations! One of those collaborations is the event that I organised for the second year students: the VR Oktoberfest. Since the excursion to Berlin was cancelled due to the pandemic we came up with an alternative plan. The day started of with interesting lectures about datafication and ethics from João Magalhães (RUG) and ethical hacking and digital privacy from Tom de Vries (HackerOne). During the second part students got to know several local companies during the 'Bedrijvenspeurtocht': 16 creative companies gave a tour to small groups of students. We closed the day at the wonderful venue EM2 with 11 different VR experiences, including 'de Schommel' from XR/Animation studio Happy Ship. I had a wonderful time organising it together with Peter Pranger and several other colleagues. Especially since some of us were crazy enough to end the day in full Oktoberfest outfits! It was a successful pilot that evolved in several events that are now part of our program: such as de Bedrijventocht and Eindexpo.
Hogeschooldocent en projectleider voor de in december 24 afgeronde accreditatie. Daarnaast geef ik les bij het keuzevak Animatie ontwerp in jaar 2 en animatie workshops in jaar 1. Andere lessen die ik heb gegeven: Personal Branding, Oriëntatie op het werkveld, Ontwerpen voor Extended Reality en Interactie ontwerp. Ook organiseer ik graag events die onderwijs en werkveld samenbrengen. Een van mijn favoriete events is bijvoorbeeld de Bedrijventocht waarbij studenten in twee rondes op bezoek gaan bij verschillende creatieve bureaus in de stad en het Eindfeest waarbij studenten hun werk presenteren.
With my own company in media production I make all kinds of video productions and animations. My speciality is explaining all kinds of messages by going back to basic: what is the core of a certain concept or company?
I had a great time bringing animation to the north of The Netherlands where there are so many talented makers and enthusiasts who love animation as much as I do! Together with Forum Groningen I put together a brand new animation festival: Framed! Together with a small team we've organised the first editions, starting of in Covid-times with an online event and building it up from there. In the first editions I've put together a jury with whom we've curated several shorts programs, including regional, national and international shorts. I also suggested several other guests and input for the festival line-up.
