I'm Iida Antola, a Finnish award-winning opera singer living in Europe. Currently I'm based in Amsterdam but I've previously studied and lived in Berlin and in France. I speak fluent Finnish, English, German and French. I work as a soloist but I'm also a trained pianist, choir conductor and a published composer. In 2025 I made my German debut at Theater Regensburg as Marie Antoinette (The Ghosts of Versailles/Corigliano). My other recent roles include Leonora (Il Trovatore/Verdi), the role of the Bride in Kaija Saariaho’s last opera Innocence, the role of Muriel in Alexander Raskatov's Animal farm and the title roles of Suor Angelica (Puccini) and Adina (Rossini). In 2022 I made my international debut as Écho (Strauss/Ariadne auf Naxos) at Opéra de Limoges and in 2026 I will be singing the role of Vlasta in Die Passagierin (Weinberg) at the Dutch National Opera. I've sung many principal roles at the Finnish National Opera at the very beginning of my career such as Pamina (Magic Flute, 2017), Christine (The Phantom of the Opera, 2018 & 2021) and Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro, 2020). In summer 2022 I was awarded the Bel Canto Prize, Audience Award and the Inge Borkh scholarship at the Rossini in Wildbad Festival. I have been a finalist in many prestigious international competitions like the ARD competition in Munich (2021), the Hugo Wolf competition in Stuttgart (2018) and the Schubert competition in Dortmund (2018). In Finland I have been awarded 1st prizes at Lappeenranta Voice Competition (2023) and Kangasniemi Competition (2017). Besides opera I'm also a passionate Lieder singer. I have given recitals in Musée d'Orsay, Abbaye Royaumont, Festival Lied Würzburg, MozartFest Würzburg, Crescendo Festival Berlin, Ploiesti Philharmonic and Bucharest Atheneum. I won 2nd prize at the International Paula Salomon Lindberg Competition in Berlin in 2017 with pianist Daria Tudor. Alba Records published my debut CD "The truth about love" with pianist Kirill Kozlovski in March 2023. Before my voice studies I studied choir conducting in Finland under Timo Nuoranne and Matti Hyökki and in France in the class of Nicole Corti at the CNSMD Lyon. I worked as a chorus master for many opera productions at the Sibelius Academy and I was also the artistic director of HOL, a high-level student choir in Helsinki. In 2015 HOL was awarded two golden stars at International Tampere Vocal Music Festival choir review and I was also awarded the prize for the best young conductor. My dream is to combine conducting and singing.

Dazu kombinieren wir die Kammeroper Dafne mit der Art-Pop Performance Pan The Girl der Band Circle To Square – bestehend aus dem britischen Ambientkünstler Alex Smalley alias Olan Mill (production/electronics) und der ehemaligen Chapeau Claque-Sängerin Maria Antonia Smalley (vocals/songwriting) – und der Tänzerin und Choreografin Maya Gomez. In einem kollektiven Prozess ist ein Abend über Frauen im Kultur- und Medienbetrieb entstanden, die ihre Erfahrungen in einer Welt voll sexistischer Gewalt und patriarchalen Erwartungen reflektieren. Die widersinnige Annahme, dass Frauen weniger wert seien als Männer, zieht sich durch unsere gesamte Kultur. Zahlreiche griechische Mythen erzählen beispielweise von Göttern, die sich in Tiere verwandeln, um Prinzessinnen zu „erobern“, sodass in Leda und der Schwan oder Europa und der Stier oder Dafne, die sich ihrerseits in einen Lorbeerbaum verwandelt, um der Vergewaltigung durch Apollo zu entgehen, auch Rollenmodelle zeigen, die die Jahrhunderte überdauern. Der italienische Komponist Mario Pagotto komponierte 2019 eine neue Version von Dafne. Sie endet, so der Komponist, „mit der Hoffnung, dass sich die Dunkelheit auflöst, die das Gewissen und das Verhalten blendet, auflöst und dem Licht der Vernunft und des Respekts Platz macht.“
