Lawrenceville, Georgia, United States
I am a college professor. I have taught different levels of English composition (secondary school and college), English as a Second Language and Arabic at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Penn State University, and the Harrisburg Area Community College in the State of Pennsylvania, USA. In addition, I have extensive overseas teaching training and experience. Currently, I am an assistant professor of English at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) . I teach there English composition classes. Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) is a four-year public liberal arts college located in in Lawrenceville, Georgia. GGC is the nation’s first four-year public college founded in the 21st century and the first four-year public institution created in Georgia in more than 100 years. It is the fastest growing college nationwide and considered a “College of Distinction”. GGC is ranked the #6 state college in the Southeast by US News & World Report (2013). It had only 118 students in 2007 and now (2013) it has 9732 students. My life-long motto is "To teach is to learn twice." My philosophy of teaching, briefly speaking, revolves around my role as a participant and communicator of knowledge. In medicine, there is a main belief to “do no harm,” and I feel that this applies as well to teaching. As an English composition, English as a Second Language, and Arabic teacher, I am committed to both the good of the student and to my own profession. It is for this reason that conscience is most important to me in teaching. Furthermore, students and schools are changing and we, as teachers, need to meet those shifting needs. Moreover, it is important for teachers to remember that they are in a continual state of learning and adapting.
