Cahya Mata Sarawak (CMS) is a leading corporation listed on the Main Market of the Malaysian stock exchange, Bursa Malaysia, and is a major private-sector player in Sarawak, the largest state in Malaysia. CMS' portfolio spans over 40 companies involved in cement manufacturing, construction materials, trading, construction, road maintenance, property development, financial services, education and other services. The Group is supported by a team of 2,000 employees. As the Group CFO I was responsible for all financial matters for the organisation. In addition to reporting directly to the CEO I was also responsible for reporting to the Board of Directors, which included making regular presentations to the Board's Audit committee. CMS Sdn Bhd had a number of subsidiaries and I was a member of the investment committee for our Venture Capital Fund. Further, I was part of the group that managed our investment in Utama Banking, the largest single shareholder in RHB Bank Berhad. I was responsible for selling the company's stake in RHB for an amount 25% greater than the minimum price set by the Board. I was also part of the negotiating team that purchased a Clinker manufacturer for our Cement division.
