I am a versatile data scientist, mixed-methods researcher and project manager who focuses on conducting research with a careful eye to context and processes. I'm passionate about using reproducible methodology to find the important stories in data and translating these into actionable insights. My research has focused on helping people across the lifespan engage in effective information search, discerning evaluation of source/content characteristics, and data interpretation. This has included but not limited to media learning and education from childhood to adulthood, misinformation interventions, and our developing understanding of the affordances and feature of technology that affect their perceived informational utility. I have 10+ years of experience with multiple quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and data cleaning/analysis in R. I also have experience coordinating within and between many types of research teams and directing cross-functional teams in the design and operation of web-based research services.
• Conducted literature reviews and fact-checking for both short-form and long-form videos covering the topics of climate change, media literacy, and human-environment interactions. • Led and assisted script-writing, editing, and production notes for both short-form and long-form videos.
• Designed, piloted, and conducted end-to-end quantitative non-partisan research project utilizing multivariate testing in 4800 U.S. adults as part of a $500K large collaborative project, identifying multiple impactful methods for reducing user’s likelihood to share false information online (Tools: CloudResearch Connect; Qualtrics). • Cleaned, analyzed, and visualized data; presented award-winning research reports to technical and non-technical audiences (Tools: R, ggplot2; Quarto/R Markdown). • Served as research lead and project coordinator for cross-functional team of researchers, cybersecurity experts, and software developers in designing an online research platform utilizing AI-agents powered by Google Gemini. • Initiated and collaborated on the development and submission of a $1.04 million, 4-year grant proposal to study adolescent digital media behaviors in collaboration with social scientists, computer scientists, and media literacy experts, winning an internal university competition to be the university’s sole applicant to the grant funder.
• Coordinated research partnerships and security compliance with over 100 researchers and universities across the world; presented slide decks including user metrics and service features to recruit new clients at university departmental meetings. • Collaborated with a cross-functional team of software developers and researchers in improving the user experience for three user types through development of new features, updating the UX design of existing features, overhauling user guides and documentation, and developing new user communication channels. • Directed the integration of two open-source software services into the platform (jsPsych software into core services and the Psych-DS community data standard and technical specification into data management systems).
• Coordinated the development of 16 research studies across 6 research teams (including 13 senior researchers, 3 associate researchers, and 10+ M.S. and B.S.-level assistants) as the Research Administration Lead for the $1.25 million Project GARDEN initiative, supporting project needs including building standardized research administration and ethics infrastructure and constructing a 75-page project administration toolkit. • Designed and executed two mixed-method end-to-end research projects involving over 300 children and their caregivers, including collecting 100+ measures including demographics, user motivation/satisfaction metrics, and psychological development scales as well as conducting semi-structured interviews and experimental measures. • Led the design of family/user experience to support sustained user engagement across 1.5 years, including UI and feature improvements on the CHS site, the writing for and design of 2D-animated videos, and a project webpage. • Developed and presented data-based research reports to multiple levels of stakeholders, including three research conference presentations (Tools: R, ggplot2; Quarto/R Markdown).
