As a member of the QGC management team, Ian lead QGC’s relationship with Gladstone Ports Corporation, the peak authority for the location of QGC’s planned LNG project on Curtis Island, off the coast of Gladstone. Ian's achievements during this period included: - Developing a successful relationship between QGC and Gladstone Ports Corporation, the peak authority for the location of QGC’s planned LNG project on Curtis Island, off the coast of Gladstone - Leading successful negotiations with Gladstone Ports Corporation to execute the A$1 billion program of work for marine and mainland infrastructure construction and dredging
While serving as General Manager Ports and Infrastructure, Ian simultaneously acted as General Manager Business Development at QGC. In this role, he was responsible for BG Group’s Asia Pacific growth strategy.
As CFO in an S&P/ASX 100 energy company, Queensland Gas Company (later QGC), in a rapidly evolving coal seam gas sector, Ian partnered with the Managing Director on matters of group strategy and investor relations, and was responsible for all aspects of accounting, finance, tax, treasury and group reporting. His achievements during this period included: - Lead negotiator in the A$15 billion LNG joint venture transaction with BG Group plc, comprising the sale of 20% of Queensland Gas Company’s coal seam gas tenements and a 9.9% equity stake in the company to BG Group (A$664 million) as well as the creation of an alliance to construct a two train LNG plant in Gladstone - Negotiation and execution of the A$5.6 billion on-market all cash takeover offer for Queensland Gas Company by BG Group – the largest on-market takeover in Australian corporate history (at the time) with change of control achieved in five trading days - Identification, negotiation and execution of the Sunshine Gas Limited off-market all cash with cash and scrip alternative takeover offer (A$870 million), and leading the integration of Sunshine Gas into QGC
Ian was engaged to build an energy sector practice within Austock, drawing on his local and international experience in capital market transactions, debt structuring, corporate strategy and mergers and acquisitions.
