    Working on long term attachment from the UK’s Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) I am responsible for the management of the Joint Astronomy Centre’s Electronics group providing design and operational support of both UKIRT and JCMT infra-red and sub millimeter telescopes located at 14000 ft on the summit of Mauna Kea Hawaii. My primary responsibilities are as detailed below. • Management of Engineering Technical Services Electronics department. • Management of telescope and astronomical instrument upgrade programs • Design of telescope and astronomical instrument hardware upgrades • Supplier management for critical components and systems • Specification and design of multiple facility Allen Bradley Programmable logic controller (PLC) hardware and software systems • Root cause analysis and correction of systemic failures at both telescopes • Training and development of electronics group staff • Support of UK’s withdrawal from UKIRT/JCMT telescope’s and transition to new owners My current appraisal grading within the JAC organization is in the “Exceptional” category. My employment with the JAC runs through to the beginning of January 2015 when both telescope’s transition from UK ownership are planned to complete and I will return to the UK.
