Hugo Schepens is Managing Partner of DAIDALOS sc, a Belgium based consultancy, advising the life science community in Europe. He is the past Secretary-General of EuropaBio, the European Association for Bioindustries, which he led from 2000 till April 2004. From 1993 till 2000, Hugo Schepens has handled European policy issues as the Representative in Europe of PhRMA, the US research-based pharmaceutical industry association. He gained experience in public policy as head of the Belgian Institute for Health Economics (BIGE/IBES) from 1991 to 1993 and as an international pharmaceutical executive since 1973. He has served on the Board of Directors of AVGI/AGIM, the Belgian pharmaceutical industry association (now Pharma.be) and has been a founding member of Pharexbel, the association of pharmaceutical exporters in Belgium. In 2006, he also managed the merger of the two existing Belgian biotechnology associations, BelgoBiotech and Belgian Biotechnology Association into Bio.be, now the single voice of the Belgian biotechnology industry. A native of Belgium (born 1940), he graduated in Commercial and Financial Sciences from Erasmus College in Brussels. He also holds a MBA from the Catholic University of Leuven and a degree in health economics from Antwerp University.
