Martina McBride:
Some of my Inventions:
#1 Ultrafast Analog Multiplier [Note the Schottky-diode core of this multiplier can operate up to the TeraHertz range];
[H. Houtman, "Analog Multipier Works Over Large
Ffrequeny Range," EDN pp. 200-202, 16 Sept. 1999
#2 1 GHz Sampling Scope;
[ H. Houtman "1-GHz sampling oscilloscope front end", Electronic Design pp.175-176 z(Sept. 18 2000)]
#3 [Horology] 4-gear clock with 3 central hands, mostly of wood;
[ H. Houtman, "Four-Gear Grandfather Clock"NAWCC Chapter 161, Horological Science Newsletter HSN 2002-3, pp.2-7 (July, 2002)]
#4 Servo-remontoire
[H. Houtman, "Detent Escapements, Central-Impulse Pallets, and Servo-remontoires", NAWCC Chapter 161, Horological Science Newsletter HSN 2007-5, pp.2-19, (Oct 2007)].
#5 True-cycloidal pendulum:
[H. Houtman, "Parabolic Conical Pendulums, and Some New Cycloidal Pendulums," NAWCC Chapter 161, Horological Science Newsletter HSN-2011-1,pp. 2-15 (Jan. 2011)]
#6 Frictionless Dead-Beat Clock Escapement:
Each arm of this substantially silent escapement is double-articulated,so that on interaction with the moving escape-wheel, absolutely no sliding can occur. . . .(to be published)
#7 Seconds-beating table-clock, only 50-cm high, with single-bob true-cycloidal pendulum, with clover-roller pinions, endless-chain-servo-remontoire, and frictionless escapement (to be published)
#8 Holographic sundial: Unlike the CD-diffraction sundial which shows a sharp line purported to lie on the CD surface, My true-holographic sundial throws four images (Two real, and two virtual) outside, on a 45-degreer line from the hologram surface. Only one of the four is needed for the time readout . . . (to be published)

Lasers and Plasma Physics laboratory work, in the field of fusion-related studies, for future energy source, the high-temperature fusion of dueterium-tritium. mixtures. Inventions: #9 An integraph which can perform calculus: [H. Houtman, "An Integraph for Determination of Integrals and Areas", American Journal of Physics (American Association of Physics Teachers), Vol 52(5), pp. 468-469 (May 1984)] #10 3-bar linkage for linear scaling in Y, but not X: [H. Houtman, "Anisotropic Pantograph," Review of Scientific Instruments Vol. 58(8), pp. 1507-1509 (August 1987).
May 1971 – May 1974 (3 years 1 month) I was an important member of Beam Dynamics Group at Triumf, performing detailed computer studies and simulations, to verify and upgrade design of Triumf Cyclotron, the largest in the world. In 1973, I developed a very important computer code, RELAX3D, which is now used world-wide to calculate electric fields in arbitrary geometric configurations of electrodes. It is maintained and upgraded as needed by C. J. Kost and F. W. Jones, both at Triumf. Again employed in 1991-1992 at Triumf, as a consultant/physicist, I redesigned an important high current, extraction magnetic channel (MC3) for the Triumf cyclotron beam extraction, so that the beam of H- ions could be used in subsequent beamlines and experimental areas.
