About

I am a highly motivated and skilled engineer with a broad knowledge of SoC FPGA design, software hardware co-design, verification and emulation tools which I have built up over a number of years working with FPGA developers, software developers, field engineers and company partners. "Ask Hugh" is a common phrase used throughout the business unit as I can very quickly provide advice and guidance on a range of topics and issues and am always willing to help my colleagues. I am very interested in developing hardware and software in tandem, developing bespoke hardware to suit the needs of software, minimising software overhead and eliminating unnecessary hardware components and features. Knowing how a processor starts up, executes code and boots an OS while also being able to write code to leverage processor / design specific features allows a full system view of the development required to realise a design.

    • IT Tallaght Students Union - Clubs & Societies Officer
      Jul 2015 - Jun 2017 · 2 yrs

The Clubs and Societies Officer role is a part time position in the IT Tallaght Students Union. My task was to help develop the clubs and societies of the Institute and assist new ones in starting. I was elected by the students of the Institute in 2015 to run from 2015 - 2016 and re-elected to hold the role for a second term until June 2017. I implemented several initiatives to help streamline the processes involved in the administration of clubs and societies. One main example of this is the introduction of a digital sign up form, moving away from the previous pen and paper method of signing up new students. Apart from the instant benefit of no longer having issues with spelling mistakes when transcribing sign ups or lost forms, the new system has allowed us to view a master file of all sign ups and also extract actual sign ups (excluding duplicates from people who have signed up to more than one club or society). Which has given our actual number of students involved. This allowed us to see the demographics of sign ups and retention levels.

  • Brand Ambassador at Lites Group Ltd
    May 2016 - Jun 2017 · 1 yr 2 mos

I initially joined Lites Group as a brand ambassador on a Hop House 13 campaign working for Diageo. Since then I have continued to represent the brand of Hop House 13 but have also been involved in campaigns for Tassimo Brewers, Pepsi, Carlsberg and Dunnhumby. My work has been highly varied teaching me many valuable skills from pulling pints, preparing drinks, sales and placement of POS materials in stores. I also had the opportunity to work in the Lites Dublin Head Office from July to August 2016 corresponding with outlets for different promotions. The varied nature of this job means I'm dealing with a wide selection of clients and customers on a regular basis. Once I have completed a promotion a report is completed for each job and uploaded to an online portal for review.
