In 2003, Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck was commissioned into the Royal Bhutan Army and has experienced active service. Since 2003, His Royal Highness has been a trustee of the Tarayana Foundation. In 2007, the Prince returned to Bhutan to serve His Majesty the King, specifically in assisting His Majesty implement social welfare initiatives among needy sections of society. During June and July 2008, His Royal Highness led a delegation of 145 Bhutanese artisans, farmers, Buddhist monks, and officials, as the feature of the 42nd Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington DC. In August 2009, Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck was appointed His Majesty’s Representative to the Bhutan Olympic Committee. In 2010, the Prince initiated and organized the first Tour of the Dragon in Bhutan. It is a mountain bike race covering 268 Km from central to the western Bhutan and is conducted annually. In March 2014, HRH became a member of the Explorers Club and has been accorded as the Honorary Director of the Explorers Club in New York during the Explorers Clubs Annual Dinner in New York. In May 2015, HRH was unanimously re-elected as the President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee for the term 2015-2019. In June 2015, HRH founded the Bhutan Philanthropic Ventures, the first ever social enterprise in Bhutan to provide financial sustainability to the Tarayana Foundation and to provide leadership in the field of philanthropic initiatives in Bhutan.

His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, His Majesty’s Representative and the President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee was appointed the Chairman of the International Relations Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia on 16th September. HRH was appointed to the Chairmanship during the 34th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia, held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan and will chair the committee for a term of 4 years from 2015 to 2019.
