    Integrated decision support models can help transform the face of mining in Africa, from being the more pronounced poster child for the "Vicious10Ds" affecting land, environmental and social rights: dispossession, displacements, disputes, discrimination, disease, degradation, deprivation, destitution, death and deformity, to the virtuous face of "spatial justice" for inclusive and sustainable socio-economic empowerment. This doctoral research considered the big picture of the "mining-environment-society nexus". It developed the first scalable prototype, the Taita-Taveta Integrated Mine Planning Model (TIMPM), which is a System Dynamics Model enriched with geospatial metrics for long-term strategy and policy design.
