GPTQ delivers the Australian Government funded 'Australian General Practice Training' (AGPT) vocational training program for doctors (GP Registrars) to achieve recognition as general practitioners under the medical specialty of general practice. This is achieved by successful completion of the Fellowship requirements of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and/or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM). GPTQ receives its AGPT funding from the Australian Government Department of Health. GPTQ operates four decentralised Districts and a Hubs education, training and other services delivery structure to address local needs, and utilises local resources where appropriate, supported by business services-centred offices located at Stafford and Springwood in Brisbane and in Toowoomba QLD. Accreditation of Training Practices, certainty of Supervision and the Welfare of Registrars within the program is a benchmark to ensure patient safety. Ian was also CEO of Tropical Medical Training within the same funded program for Far North Queensland.

Its mission is to provide accreditation services to QLD Health Dept, of standards within probationary hospital medical practice and other national programs and services that support safe health services delivery and improved healthcare outcomes for the community. These programs and services include education and training of health sector workers, support staff and accreditation services, to assure the community of the quality and safety of health services. HLA provides education and training programs to facilitate integrated healthcare services and to develop and deliver programs for health sector workers/professional development through accreditation services for medical training facilities.
