I've spent nearly two decades helping financial institutions understand and manage risk — across the UK, the Philippines, and Papua New Guinea, in organisations ranging from global names like JP Morgan Chase and EY to challenger banks, fintechs, and UK building societies. Most recently, I served as Head of Financial Risk at Monmouthshire Building Society, one of Wales' leading member-focused financial service provider, where I provided second-line oversight on capital, liquidity, interest rate, prudential risk, and model risk - leading the ICAAP, assessing the impact of Basel 3.1 and the Small Domestic Deposit Takers regime, giving assurance on the Society's high risk financial models, and providing independent oversight and challenge to major financial risk decisions. Before that, I led Treasury and Financial Planning on an interim basis at Triodos Bank UK, and earlier in my career served at CIMB Bank Philippines, Shinhan Bank Manila, Finscore/Cash Credit, BDO Private Bank, Robinsons Bank and other financial institutions in the Philippines and Papua New Guinea. What I've learned along the way is that risk management only works when people understand it. The frameworks, models, and regulations matter — but the real job is translating complexity into something a board, a business unit, or a risk owner can act on with confidence. That's the part of the work I enjoy most, and the skill I've worked hardest to build. I'm a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Treasury Professional (CTP), and I hold an MBA from the University of the Philippines. My technical grounding spans ICAAP, ILAAP, IRRBB, recovery and resolution planning, treasury and ALM, model risk, and prudential regulation under both Basel and UK PRA regimes. Having built risk functions from scratch in emerging markets and refined mature ones in the UK, I bring a perspective shaped by very different environments — and a genuine appreciation for how much there always is to learn.
