With more than four decades of experience as a trial lawyer and judge, I bring a practical and disciplined approach to my work as a mediator and arbitrator at Signature Resolution. My goal is to help parties stay focused on resolution, understand what is truly at stake, and work toward outcomes they can accept and move forward with. Before joining Signature Resolution, I served as a Justice of the Massachusetts Trial Court, District Court Department, where I presided over thousands of civil and criminal matters, including personal injury, contract, and construction disputes. I also handled judicial settlement conferences and specialty courts, gaining a clear perspective on how cases are evaluated and what drives resolution. Prior to my time on the bench, I spent more than thirty-five years as a founding partner at Finneran, Byrne & Drechsler, where I represented clients in personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, and complex liability matters. My experience as a trial attorney shaped my understanding of the risks, costs, and unpredictability of litigation, as well as what resolution means to the people involved. My approach to mediation is grounded in patience, persistence, and direct communication. I focus on listening carefully, helping parties understand the strengths and weaknesses of their positions, and maintaining momentum even when progress is slow. I believe meaningful resolution often requires sustained effort, and I remain committed to the process until the case is resolved.
