About

I am an AI researcher and Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, with a PhD in Electrical Engineering and 20 years of experience in higher education. I am currently transitioning into AI governance and am interested in opportunities as a researcher, practitioner, or a combination of both. I am open to remote or onsite roles, particularly in Canada, the Middle East, and Europe. Throughout my career, I have worked at the intersection of AI, institutional decision-making, and educational systems. My research spans artificial intelligence, signal processing, and peer-reviewed publications. Nine years in senior academic management taught me what happens when systems designed in theory meet institutions operating under pressure. Leading through Sudan's 2019 revolution and the COVID-19 pandemic showed me firsthand how governance shapes institutional resilience, decision-making, and the successful adoption of technology. To strengthen my expertise in this field, I am currently enrolled in the Oxford/UNESCO Certificate Program in AI and Digital Transformation in Government, with a focus on AI ethics, data governance, and responsible AI. My practical interests include AI audit methodologies, governance and risk frameworks, and ethical impact assessment for AI systems. My research is driven by a question I believe deserves greater attention: How can institutions in resource-constrained environments build the capacity and governance structures needed to deploy AI responsibly when many existing frameworks were developed for very different contexts? The communities that need trustworthy AI most are often the least equipped to govern it. Helping bridge that gap is where I hope to make my greatest contribution through both research and practice.
