For the past 20 years, Ken Hor has worked alongside movies, commercials, animated series, and music albums. Ken pursued a degree in Music Technology and Composition from University Putra Malaysia while at the same time working his way up from a studio guy in a post-production house to becoming an arranger in various types of productions eventually. In 2004, Ken journeyed to California to study Film Scoring at the University of California Los Angeles and worked as an assistant under veteran composer William Goldstein. Besides commercial albums and jingles in Los Angeles, Ken's works were also heard at several film festivals in the States. Upon returning to Malaysia, Ken achieved remarkable success with his contemporary-ethnic showcase titled Let's Go Mamak!, which swept four BOH Cameronian Awards in 2009. Since then, he has collaborated with a group of A-list musicians under the banner of Inner Voices Productions, contributing intense scores to a wide array of projects. His portfolio includes notable works such as Syafiq Yusof's box-office hits Misteri Dilaila, KL Special Force, and Abang Long Fadil 2, award-winning director Yeo Joon Han's In The Dark, animated comedy series AstroLOLogy and Harry and Bunnie, numerous prestigious TV Commercials, and several acclaimed artists' albums and EPs. In 2019, Ken and his team played a pivotal role in creating 'Awake’, the official theme song for the World Electronic Sports Games Southeast Asia (WESG SEA). Since 2022, Ken's compositions have graced the screens of major cinemas, featuring in productions like Abang Long Fadil 3, Juang, Talbis Iblis, Polis Evo 3, and the first Malaysian Disney Hotstar series Special Force Anarchy. Beyond commercial ventures, Ken consistently delves into concert-hall music and has engaged in collaborations with prestigious ensembles including the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Malaysia National Symphony Orchestra, Orkestra Tradisional Malaysia, Young Malaysians Go Classic festival, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Young KL Singers, and more. Earlier this year, 2 of the animation shorts Ken scored, The 7th Night: MaoMao Revisit and Footprints in The Forest, received awards and nominations at many festivals, including the most recent accolades at SEA Kre8tif Awards 2023. Ken recently completed a Singaporean film called La Luna, and now working on Astro Tele-movie Telekinesis and a Chinese New Year movie called All In.
I've been focusing more on film scoring since I teamed up with Lo Shi Seng. Some of our notable works include Syafiq Yusof's last three box-office films Misteri Dilaila, KL Special Force, and Abang Long Fadil 2, animated comedy series Astrolology and Harry and Bunnie, and a few dozens of prestige TV Commercials and artists' albums. We have completed film scores for Abang Long Fadil 3 and Polis Evo 3 last year and now working on a horror film.
Some interesting projects I have done in the first six years of this team include Let's Go Mamak, Platform 11 十一號月台, Yeo Joon Han's featured films "In The Dark 見鬼", AIM best group Mad August's album, Unicef Documentary "Dance Language", some commercial ADs and albums. I actively wrote for orchestra and staged performances, like Orkestra Traditional Malaysia, KLPac, NSO, MPO and her youth orchestra, Young Malaysians Go Classic, Shanghai SO, etc.
