Henk Looijesteijn

Independent historian and Fellow at the IISH

Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands

About

As a historian I am interested in almost everything, but my expertise focuses on how societies throughout the ages have coped with hazards and organized assistance to those in need. Among others I studied the reasons for founding almshouses for the elderly, the organizing of mutual assistance and the setting up of philanthropic savings banks.
