About

I am a sustainability professional with a certificate in sustainability reporting, committed to supporting SMEs through sustainable business transformation that benefits the company, environment, and society. I enjoy helping micro and voluntary SMEs with their first report, as well as start-ups that want to embed ESG into their operations to attract impact investors. In 2021, I founded Habitania Institute, a sustainability consultancy based in Helsinki that assists micro, voluntary SMEs and start-ups in the Nordic and Baltic regions in transitioning to more sustainable business practices. We support entities in making sustainability efforts visible and report-ready, especially now that the VSME Standard is getting established. We assist companies through the reporting process with individual coaching, educational webinars, training sessions, and workshops. With my transition from the service design field into organisational sustainability transformation and reporting, I employ various systemic, strategic, and service design tools in sustainability assessment before moving on to Excel tables. Also, AI in sustainability reporting is not new to me. In a nutshell Certified sustainability reporting expert with a background in service design, who thrives working with micro, small, and mid-sized enterprises and startups. I approach corporate sustainability from a service design perspective before I move on to Excel spreadsheets. I teach two service design courses for professionals: the Basic of Service Design and the Service Design Project Course. The first course focuses on service design essentials. The course covers the design process, primary service design, and other relevant systemic and strategic design tools; the position of strategic design and sustainable service design strategies; the role of service design in rethinking value in a changing service landscape; and designing meaningful service experiences, the dimensions of users’ experiences, and their prototyping. During the course, professionals analyse companies’ circular business models, read academic and practical service design literature, and work on weekly group assignments. At the virtual circular design workshop, we implement a circular business tool to redesign before analysed cases. In the second course, professionals utilise individual service design expertise in a practical company development project. The professionals understand service premises and consider these when redesigning or creating new service design concepts. During their assignments, professionals work tightly with the company mentor. Selected company projects concern contemporary service design topics: circular services, hospitality services, alternative food growing, developing learning analytics services for Aalto University students, healthcare services employing blockchain technology, and using transformative business models to reduce plastic waste. Several specialised SD-related lectures are delivered during the course, a virtual visit at the SD agency and a guest lecture from a service expert.

    • Postdoctoral Researcher
      Oct 2017 - Dec 2018 · 1 yr 3 mos

During this research period, I worked on a systematic literature review of planning processes and methods in urban mobility. Preliminary research revealed the need for developing a more significant number of path-breaking visions of the future in the processes of urban systems planning. The research question was if current envisioning methods are sufficient to respond to irreducible uncertainty related to socio-economic, environmental, technological, and political factors. The short answer was no. The preliminary research results were presented in 2018 at Aalto University Summer School on Transportation 2018 (August 20-24) and the STS Symposium, University of Tampere, Tampere (14-15 June). You can read more about the result of this study in the paper titled “The landscape of envisioning and speculative design methods for sustainable mobility futures” in co-authorship with Miloš Mladenović and Moshe Givoni, in 2020 for Sustainability.
