I love the work I do! It encompasses two great things: making a difference, and finding a new way to look at a situation. I have studied and worked in science and technology all my life. Whether it be in education technology, application monitoring, or cloud technologies, what I really enjoy is working closely with customers to use technology to solve their problems. I have been lucky to work in many roles during my career, as a software developer, researcher, educator and in application support teams. This gives me an interesting perspective that helps me bridge the gap between the users and the developers/vendor/theory, allowing me to bring useful technology into the hands of those it can benefit. I am technologically flexible, with an expert knowledge of a variety of tools, programming languages and systems, and importantly, I am quickly able to pick up new ones. I have the core skills of problem solving, mentorship, user awareness and the ability to develop solutions to the problem at hand. * Highly motivated, enthusiastic worker who thrives on challenges and continued learning. * Over 10 years experience in Enterprise Observability * More than 10 years experience with web and desktop application development. * 12 years experience in research/development/support of education technology, especially in eAssessment. * Excellent aural and written communication skills, and able to communicate at a variety of levels to internal and external colleagues and organisations. * Nationally recognised in the field of Application Monitoring and eAssessment and invited as an expert by external organisations, for example, advising on projects, delivering training and writing articles for publication. I was part of the Tactics team, as a Tech Lead, looking at strategic technology solutions across the company. A large part of this was leading and supporting the Application Monitoring team.
Worked with the Order Entry/Management team supporting the related IT systems. Explored and utilised IT system monitoring to support the teams work. Worked as Tech Lead on development project.
I Primarily worked on the development of educationally or scientifically based software, allowing me to utilise my expertise in these areas. Recent work: * Development of web interface for oil modelling software (Epistemy.com). Working with Yii, PHP, SQL, Javascript, JQuery, HTML, CSS and Twitter Bootstrap. * Development work on a web based question editor for Newcastle University’s eAssessment system. Working with Django, Python, knockout and jQuery. I am happy to receive queries about software development work, training or eAssessment and education technology consultancy.
