About

At 18, I nearly took my own life. That moment changed how I understood leadership, wellbeing and the cost of silence. It also made one thing clear to me early on. If conversations around mental health, identity and pressure were not happening at the top, the next generation would continue to pay the price. Today, I am an award-winning international keynote speaker, author and leadership consultant working with FTSE 100, Fortune 500 and public sector organisations across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and the United States. My work focuses on leadership, wellbeing, communication and visibility, helping leaders show up as real models rather than perfect role models and create cultures where people can perform without pretending or burning out. I have delivered keynotes and leadership programmes across five continents for organisations including • Google • JP Morgan • Microsoft • KPMG • Harrods • The UK Cabinet Office I also deliver wellbeing-led leadership training and provide practical tools that support leaders to communicate more authentically with their teams. I have worked with senior leaders and leadership teams across the private and public sectors, including • Leena Nair, CEO of Chanel • Rupert McNeil, former Chief People Officer, UK Cabinet Office • Gavriella Schuster, former Corporate Vice President, Microsoft • Thomas Heier, former CEO of Wagamama A core part of my work is helping senior leaders better understand, engage and retain Millennial and Gen Z talent. I bridge generational gaps by translating the pressures, values and expectations of the next generation into practical leadership insight that supports clarity, credibility and trust. Organisations engage me when they want to be challenged, informed and transformed through honest conversation, strategic insight and human leadership. Alongside keynote speaking, I also deliver leadership communication and public speaking training, helping leaders and teams communicate publicly with clarity, authenticity and authority in high-pressure environments. Speak Up debuted at Number 8 in the UK BookScan Top 10 General Business Books during its first publishing week, positioning it among the most impactful leadership, communication, and business titles in the UK market at launch. Speak Up: How to Use Your Voice to Inspire, Influence, and Earn is a leadership, communication, and personal development book that explores the power of voice as a tool for clarity, influence, and long-term impact. Blending lived experience with practical insight, the book examines what it means to speak with conviction and courage — not only on stages, but in boardrooms, organisations, teams, relationships, and everyday decision-making. Rather than treating confidence as performance, Speak Up reframes voice as stewardship, challenging surface-level ideas of visibility and encouraging readers to communicate messages that outlive them. Hayley Mulenda Record wrote the book to help individuals stop shrinking, stop settling, and use their voice with intention — whether they are leading businesses, shaping culture, influencing communities, or navigating pivotal moments in their personal and professional lives. Since its release, Speak Up has resonated strongly with readers across leadership, business, and creative spaces. Readers describe the book as both grounding and empowering — helping them articulate thoughts they previously struggled to express, speak with greater confidence in high-pressure environments, and show up more fully in conversations that matter. Many have shared that the book has helped them find language for their experiences, rebuild trust in their own voice, and move from silence or self-doubt into clarity and conviction. Rather than teaching people how to be louder, Speak Up has not just been a book that people read, it’s been a book that people can study too.

Every letter will include a life lesson and a set task to ensure you are making productive steps towards your success. Readers will be able to gain a deeper perspective of the alphabet and learn that there are life lessons within a simple nursery rhyme that we were taught as children.
