Are you looking to build or expand a manufacturing facility? Do you need help solving challenging infrastructure problems? I help companies build and expand manufacturing facilities and laboratories, improve operations and solve facility issues to drive greater business performance, revenue and profitability. I’m a Senior Engineer and Project Manager with 30+ years of design lead, construction management and operations experience with Life Sciences, Microelectronics, Chemical Process, and R&D lab facilities. I apply my diverse background to steer $1M-$10M engineering and construction projects to success. Performance highlights include: ⇨ Cost benefit analysis and addition of on-site Nitrogen Generation plant. Project Manager for the design, construction and startup of a 115,000 SCFH air separation plant, a $5.5 million project. ⇨ Design, construction, and startup of a fume abatement system, a $2.5 million project. Work involved P&ID development, piping design, equipment specifications, bid and award equipment, trade contracts and Process Hazards analysis. ⇨ Project Executive - Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) of an animal vaccine facility. Oversaw concept design through detail design and construction price development. Left firm during construction phase. ⇨ Project Executive - EPC of Clean Utilities (WFI) upgrades for a blood fractionation facility. Directed design through startup. Achieving project success starts with talking to people, gathering information and understanding the problem, goals and constraints. It also involves putting together a team with the necessary skill mix, explaining the goal, soliciting feedback, developing a strong plan, getting buy-in and getting to work. If you have a facility engineering project need – whether it’s a new build, an expansion or an infrastructure issue – reach out to me to discuss your need. As Owner and Principal of Project Engineering Associates, I serve as project manager, project engineer and design lead for my clients in manufacturing facilities. I specialize in $1M to $10M projects, including facility construction and expansion and infrastructure improvements for Life Sciences, Microelectronics, Chemical Process and R&D labs. Examples of services and projects include: ► Facilities Engineering Staff Augmentation: Provided on-site engineering support for the Facilities group at a Microelectronics Plant. I investigated problems and provided design solutions for facilities-related systems, including chilled water, heating hot water, compressed air, steam, HVAC, exhaust, cryogenic H2, N2, Ar, O2, gas distribution, DI Water, Process Cooling water, Thermal Oxidizers, Waste Water treatment, and Waste Water recycle. ► Construction management of a new 120,000 SF microelectronics manufacturing building. ► Project Engineer for the Waste Treatment building and systems for a grass roots Microelectronic plant.
I served as the project executive on design-build projects and the office manager, directing daily operations and leading a team of 20-40 people. On the project side, I developed proposals, managed the contract process and oversaw projects throughout the design and construction management phases for clients in the Life Sciences and Industrial arenas. As office manager, I performed business development, ensured revenue generation and profitability and conducted performance reviews. Key projects included: ► Orchestrated engineering, procurement and construction of an animal vaccine facility, managing proposal development, concept and detail design and construction price development. ► Led upgrades project for WFI system at blood fractionation facility, overseeing the proposal and design through startup. ► Served as project manager for the concept design phase of an R&D laboratory renovation encompassing 10K square feet for the National Cancer Institute.
I embraced this opportunity to launch the Raleigh division of O’Neal Engineering, Inc. In six years, we grew from just 4 people to 70 and took annual revenue to $8.4M while sustaining strong profitability. A key part of this success stemmed from developing personal relationships with many of our clients’ key decision makers and taking the time to ask questions, listening to understand and solving their unique problems. During my time in this role, I acted as project manager on several significant projects, such as: ► The design and commissioning of a 65K square-feet R&D lab. ► Design of a 13K square-feet quality control lab. ► Study and re-qualification of mechanical systems in a 160K square-feet research lab.
