As a Ride and Handling Engineer my responsibility had both Subjective and Objective elements: SUBJECTIVE: 1. Underbody suspension tuning - Anti-Roll Bar, Springs, Multi-Link suspension bushes and related elements, Dampers (involved altering not just the stack discs but also the hole diameters to allow desired flow and response, tunings including FSD stack manipulations as well), steering (Power steering; on-centre and off-centre torque management at various speeds from 0-180 KPH and Hydraulic steering), Tyres (evaluating both ride and handling characteristics of multiple compound based sets and deciding overall best combination in resonance with the vehicle dynamic performance), steering gear (measuring friction and lock to lock angular disparities). 2. Concern Resolution: Underbody noise and fine tuning concern resolution on multiple terrains with both primary and secondary inputs. OBJECTIVE: 1. Objective data collection using gyroscopes and tri-axial accelerometers placed at multiple hard points and major ride and handling input points. 2. Understanding and implementing ISO standard testing procedures for ride and handling evaluations and report preparations for comparison with benchmark and consultant data. 3. Carrying out Kinematics and Compliance tests, understanding the suspension behaviour under multiple constraints and using the data gathered to decide on suspension part parameters and to carry forward supplier discussions to achieve desired ride and handling feel and performance respectively.
