Accelerate Diagnostics is a NASDAQ listed start up company entering the In Vitro Diagnostics market with an innovative and unique solution for microbiology clinical laboratories offering high value output that dramatically improves patient care. As EMEA Head of Finance and Operations, the task for Finance consist of setting up from zero the structure that sustains Accounting, Internal Reporting, Management Reporting and adherence to local Compliance for all (seven) legal entities througout EMEA. For Operations, this consists of a similar role for Supply Chain Management and Sales Administration. Both areas are today covered by a highly performant Shared Service Center operating from Barcelona. Besides above operational focus, fiscal optimiation at EMEA level and commercial support to the Distributors network form also part of the scope.
Responsible for commercial operations in Tunisia and Morocco (€7 m). Main challenges are achieving short term sales and profitability targets, together with developing the markets on the long term with tailored marketing activities.
Headquartered in Dubai, the METERA region consists of Middle East, Africa, Turkey and Russia, with a third party turnover of €140 m of which 60% is export to distributors in countries where the group has no subsidiary. The export activity of the group amounts to €145 m (mainly to METERA, Asia Pacific and Latin America), consisting of sales to 150 third party distributors worldwide by the main manufacturing entities of the group in France and the US. There is a Finance & Operations team of 9 people in France reporting directly to the CFO World Wide Export that control this activity. This combined position is business and compliance oriented, working closely together with the 3 subsidiaries in Russia, Turkey and South Africa, as well as the 8 entities in the Middle East, Africa and Asia functioning as Representative Offices hosting the commercial teams supporting the export business.

The position is business oriented, working closely together with the five subsidiaries in the region and the commercial team managing distributors. Main learning point is managing business risk in unstable political and macro-economic environments, keeping focus on consolidated profits and local cah flow. Main other projects concern the improvement of internal control in the region and the setting up of a shared service center in Argentina, the latter one done in parallel with SAP implementation.
The position was a direct report to the site director. The site location contained many corporate support functions as well as the majority of the worldwide manufacturing and R&D activities employing around 2.500 people. Main learning point was leading projects related to a wide variety of topics such as contract controlling, laboratory maintenance optimization and IT controlling and reinvoicing.
The Indian operations, based in Calcutta, manufactured and distributed mainly for the domestic market generating 35 mEUR turnover and employing 800 people. Reporting to the CFO, the function consisted of controlling activities related to both manufacturing and distribution. Main projects were related to improving credit control and supply chain quality through setting up an internal auditing process. In order to gain commercial experience, managing the export to Sri Lanka was also part of the scope.
The position consisted of playing a liaison role between Business Unit management and country management of the European distribution organisation. Focus was on sustainable growth, ensuring consolidated results and local cash flow. The role also consisted of support to corporate processes such as budget and reporting cycles. At some point the AkzoNobel group decided to sell Organon Teknika to the French bioMerieux group. A very important learning experience was being part of the AkzoNobel team managing the sale of Organon Teknika.
