With over 30 years of experience in the disability care sector, my career has been dedicated to supporting and empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities, physical handicaps, and those within social psychiatry. My work has always been driven by a focus on enhancing Quality of Life and pioneering innovation strategies. For 16 years (1995–2011), I served as the CEO of the Pameijer Foundation, where I led the organization through significant periods of change. Following my tenure there, I have contributed my expertise to the non-profit sector by serving on various non-executive (supervisory) boards. My academic background includes a doctorate (dr.), with my dissertation titled: Care for Handicapped, Inclusion and Organizing. In 2011, I founded Inclusie.nu (www.inclusie.nu), a platform through which I continue to consult and advocate for strategic management that puts the client’s well-being first. Beyond my professional and academic work, I am also an author. I have written eight books focusing on the lives of people with disabilities and strategies to combat marginalization. Specialties: Strategic Management, Innovation, Quality of Life, Non-Profit Governance, Inclusion.
On a voluntary basis, I support the board/management of Sonrisa with my expertise/experience (including in the merger process of Trampoline Trabao, Ambiente Nobo, and Sonrisa). It is inspiring that it is mainly parents who are driving this.
My ongoing academic work includes occasional research on inclusion and quality of life. A recent example is a 2026 study on the social position of people with disabilities in Aruba, which resulted in a book (see Publications).
At Vilans, I have been involved in several projects focused on inclusion, including the 'Professionals and Inclusion' network, research on the link between poverty and inclusion, and advising care organizations on how to become more inclusive.
