About

I am a philosopher and currently an Honorary Research Fellow in Philosophy at Lancaster University. I am also a Healthcare Ethicist at Pride in Health, which is an independent provider of gender affirming healthcare that operates under an informed consent model. I have a PhD in philosophy from Lancaster University. I also previously graduated in medicine with an MB BChir from the University of Cambridge and trained as a psychiatrist. While I no longer undertake clinical practice, I remain engaged in healthcare through my applied philosophical work. My philosophical interests are broad, but most of my research focuses on conceptual and ethical issues in medicine and psychiatry. These include the concept of disease, the role of diagnosis, and the proper domain of healthcare. I have also published more widely on topics in philosophy of mind, philosophy of science, metaphysics, and applied ethics. Currently, I am especially interested in the historical and philosophical underpinnings of the informed consent model of gender affirming healthcare.
