Nairn, Scotland, United Kingdom
I am an ornithologist with professional experience in the consulting sector, working on marine and terrestrial projects. In my previous roles, I have coauthored EIA chapters, non-technical summaries and CEMDs. I am trained in using QGIS to analyse large datasets across a range of metrics, including habitat mapping and vantage point surveys, the latter of which I was the lead author for the report. Through my knowledge of marine ornithology, I was also given the responsibility of writing a species-specific management plan, including consideration of predators and INNS.
Conducted surf and stand-up paddleboard lessons in the Western Isles on a freelance basis, including organising and running snorkel tours in the area around Stornoway.
In this position, I worked on two large-scale marine developments, both of which required EIAs. My expertise in ornithology led me to co-author both ornithology chapters for the EIAs, including leading the writing of the vantage point survey report, tern management plan and multiple non-technical summaries.
In this role, I conducted breeding bird surveys across the Scottish uplands alongside butterfly and grazing intensity surveys. Through this position I gained enhanced my bird ID skills and proved my capability and managing my time in challenging environments. This job also introduced me to the professional applications of QGIS, where part of my role entailed inputing the data collected on these surveys.
