I am passionate about psychology and psychoanalysis and I'm looking forward to an academic career working on and furthering the field. My main interest is to facilitate an inter-cultural dialogue between my culture's understanding of human soul and scientific endeavors of psychoanalysis. Also, as a long term goal, I want to engage in psychotherapy practice, using the psychoanalytic methodology.
This time I have divided my time between neurosis ward and psychosis ward for severe cases. Attended daily patient visits and participated in diagnostic procedures (mostly to sharpen my diagnostic skills). Assisted a scientific study in fieldwork phase by interviewing a number of out-patients. Also, under supervision of their primary physician, worked closely with a couple of follow-up schizophrenia patients who are in remission. Gained valuable insight regarding their experiences.
Honestly, didn't do much in terms of professional practice. The first day, head physician of the ward made it clear that the consultation room was no place for an intern psychologist. So I took this chance to "socialize" with patients within the ward (supervised by the team of course). I've found talking to patients one-on-one a better experience than sitting in patient visits.
I have attended daily patient visits and observed the medical team, also attended and observed psychometric assessments with clinical psychologists. Spent most of my time with mild cases of psychotic and bipolar patients.
