Leeds, England, United Kingdom
I am an enthusiastic Computer Science student at the University of Leeds. Enjoying growing my skills and expanding my knowledge in different areas of study within the field.
Continuing the work from my placement part-time in my final year of study.
During my placement year, I joined the full stack development team at DRS. This involved: Working within an agile development environment with weekly sprint meetings. Joining calls with clients to discuss progress and development. Learning and adding to new codebases. Developing a project into its first prototype.
Before starting my placement at DRS Software I had a part-time period where I joined a highly dynamic and rapidly growing specialist solutions development team.
During my placement (4th) year at University, I was a part of the Christian Union's committee as the Secretary. This involved: Coordinating room bookings for various events and meetings; Taking accurate and comprehensive meeting minutes; Being a practical voice in meetings; Completing risk assessment forms to ensure safety protocols are followed; Booking equipment and speakers, consulting with relevant personnel as necessary; Managing the collection and distribution of incoming mail and packages; Staying updated on evolving union policies and procedures; Other general administrative tasks.
During my third year at University, I was a part of the Christian Union's committee as the Treasurer. This involved: Managing and tracking our finances, keeping a record of expenses and budgets; Planning the budget for the year, making sure we can effectively use the resources available to us; Approving expenses, making sure they were inline with the budget and handling overspending; Planning events, usually in a team with both committee and non-committee members; Communicating with the Student Union and Churches, making sure we keep up a good relationship with both and are able to effectively work together.
When on my University holidays I worked as part of the food and beverage team at Sheffield Park. This involved: Working effectively with a team in a busy environment, Communicating in a clear and friendly way to customers, making sure all their concerns were met, Preventing potential issues or problems that may develop, while sticking to the changing priorities and unexpected challenges, Working in multiple environments including the kitchen, front-of-house service, stock control, and pot wash.
I would be in charge of running the front of the house. In this smaller cafe environment, I would often be running the front of the house by myself. This required me to: Manage multiple tasks effectively, making sure new customers were seen but previous customers still received their orders in good time; Clearly communicate with kitchen staff and customers; Maintain a high attention to detail and quality even in stressful and busy periods of service.
