Hello everyone. My name is Hailey Song, a junior at the University of California, Los Angeles, studying Environmental Science with a concentration in Environmental Engineering. I have developed a solid foundation in environmental policy, environmental justice, and environmental health and inequity through lectures, coursework, and reading peer-reviewed publications. I am passionate about green infrastructure and sustainability, especially within the live entertainment and sports industries. Through my involvement in UCLA's Wind Project team, I am interested in advancing energy through renewable mechanisms that will safeguard the environment.
Working in a team to simulate the planning of a wind energy project. Evaluating cost, environmental, and social variables. Utilizing NREL System Advisor Model to determine the profitability of the wind farm. Presented at the Collegiate Wind Competition.
Collaborating with peers to restore habitat resilience by managing invasive species and promoting biodiversity through the cultivation of native plants. Connecting with environmental organizations and attending their events to support restoration efforts.
I prepared the Heal the Bay Aquarium for opening by cleaning tanks and setting up tables for ocean-related crafts for younger visitors. I interacted with a diverse range of guests, ensuring an inclusive and memorable experience for all. At the touch tanks, I maintained their safety, as well as the animals'. Through my work, I enhanced my ability to articulate engaging and comprehensible information on environmental issues and marine organisms.
As a volunteer at Heal the Bay, I conducted field observations of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) throughout Los Angeles. I documented how Angelenos were utilizing their coastal lands within these regions. I gathered information that focused on on-shore, off-shore, and unpermitted activities, collecting data aligned with their standardized procedures. Afterwards, I uploaded my data onto MPA Watch, providing various information for organizations that utilize the database for scientific research and that develop compliance and environmental protection strategies for LA’s MPAs.
