I began in IT in 1985, in a middle range IT company specialized on VMS. I learnt there all of my job, under the sympathy of VMS system engineers. I became an engineer at the CNAM where I attended nignt school. I got there my interest for Fundamental Computer Sciences, for innovation. I founded an activity for modernizing VMS sites in 2002, now a company : pia-sofer (www.pia-sofer.fr). When HP announced VMS death in 2013, I lobbied for VMS. I joined the French HP users club and initiated actions for VMS. We created the club VMSgenerations (www.vmsgenerations.fr). Since VSI took up VMS development, I do my best to participate to VMS renewal. Why do I like VMS? - The choice for the sustainable development, - The scientific certainty that the effective innovation resides in the reinforcement of more ancient things. “Archeology” is good for innovation. What I'm doing with my company and partners: Maintenance in Operational Codition (VAX/Alpha/Itanium, emulators,x86), ports between OpenVMS platforms, software modernization, technology watch on compilers build for openVMS (Ada,gcc, llvm)
A program is something which runs at least two times. pia-sofer is specialized on software modernization, to confirm sustainable solutions other very long time cycles. Because good software is the memory of best practices of the enterprises, pia-sofer helps customer to preserve their knowledge through the cycles of modernization, keeping the essentials as back bones, and connecting them to the new universes of interfaces and connections. pia-sofer naturally supports the second life of VMS, which proves good software can be relaunched. pia-sofer is involved on all the initiatives that enforce strengths for the ecosystem, in France and Europ. pia-sofer offers cycles of training on OpenVMS, because VMS needs new strengths. pia-sofer is developing a new solution for Ada on OpenVMS, associating with a company specialized on Ada, AdaLabs. The first version of the compiler has already been used in France, and pia-sofer and AdaLabs are working for a public offer, consulting VSI and talking with Adacore to choose how to deploy the offer.
