Günther Friesinger works as artist, researcher, lecturer, curator and producer. Friesinger is the general manager of monochrom, an internationally renowned artist collective. The majority of his work as an artist takes place as member of this group. It includes different fields of art such as visual arts, installation, performance, media art, actionism, theater, film, music and themes of digital culture like intellectual property, copyright and protection of data privacy. Recently, together with monochrom, Friesinger was awarded the FWF-Kunstpreis (2013) for this part of his work. Together with monochrom, G. Friesinger also deals with film and theater. As a producer, he is responsible for several projects, the most outstanding production is UDO77 (Rabenhof Theater 2004), for which the Nestroy Theaterpreis was awarded to monochrom. Most recently, the feature film Die Gstettensaga: The Rise of Echsenfriedl (2014) was added to the list. Friesinger is also active in research and teaching. He furthermore initiated several projects in the field of research.The most outstanding projects with G. Friesinger as initiatior and project leader are AudioLectureLib (2003– 2006), Practices in Hybrid Cultures (2004) and ePIONEER (2005). He recently started to manage the group of the Austrian partners of the project EMEE – Eurovision, Museum exhibiting Europe (2012–2016). For his acitivies in research G. Friesinger was recently awarded the Förderpreis für Volksbildung der Stadt Wien (2013). On top of that, Friesinger regularly works as curator and producer. The Viennese festival paraflows – Festival for Digital Art and Cultures (since 2006) is one of the highlights in this field of activity. Günther Friesinger ist the founder, artistic director and curator of this festival that was carried out in cooperatiowith the following institutions: MAK, Künstlerhaus k/haus Vienna, Kunsthalle Wien, and das weisse haus. For paraflows, Friesinger was awarded the Bank Austria Kunstpreis (2013).
